About the Championship

The FunFox Future Leaders Speech Championship is a platform designed to empower young students, in grades 1-9, by honing their public speaking skills and encouraging them to explore thought-provoking topics. This contest is open to all-entry is free for FunFox students and $50 for non-FunFox students. All participants are welcome to attend the in-person finals in Sydney.

At FunFox, we believe in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow by providing them with opportunities to express themselves confidently and creatively. Since our founding in 2020, we have been dedicated to blending evidence-based teaching with innovative technology to foster a lifelong passion for learning among young students.

Competition Formats and Topics

In Round 1, participants will submit a video of their speech based on one of the following topics:

  • ⦿ If I were principal for a day…
  • ⦿ Why every child should learn to cook
  • ⦿ SpongeBob shouldn't be friends with Patrick
  • ⦿ If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
  • ⦿ Is it better to live in a world where everyone can read minds?
  • ⦿ Do we own our dreams?
  • ⦿ Should there be a limit to how much money someone can have? If so, how much?

The video must be unedited and not sped up. The video length requirements are as follows:

  • ⦿ Year 1-2: Up to 90 seconds
  • ⦿ Year 3-4: Up to 2 minutes
  • ⦿ Year 5-6: Up to 3 minutes
  • ⦿ Year 7-9: Up to 3 minutes

The top 5 entries will proceed to Round 2

The top 1 entry per year group will be selected based on public votes, while the top 2 entries per year group will be chosen by our judges. These 3 finalists per year group will move on to the grand finale.

The finals will be held in person in Sydney.

This event promises to be a day of learning and excitement featuring:

For those finalists who cannot attend in person, we will project their speeches via Zoom to ensure everyone has a fair chance to compete

Prizes & Recognition

Every participant in the FunFox Future Leaders Speech Championship will receive a certificate of participation, recognising their effort and commitment. The top 3 finalists will be awarded special trophies, and the overall winner will receive an exciting prize to celebrate their achievement.

How It Works

Click the Register Now button and sign up. Entry is free for FunFox students and $50 for non-FunFox students.
Prepare Your Speech
Choose a topic from the list and prepare a compelling speech. Use our tips and resources to help you get ready.
Submit Your Video
Record your speech and submit it online. Remember to adhere to the time limits based on your age group.
Compete in Round 1 & Round 2
Your video will be assessed by our expert panel of judges, and if you make it to the top 5, it will be posted online for public voting. The top 3 will advance to the finals.
Attend the Finals
Finalists will compete in person in Sydney on November 16, 2025. If you can't attend, you can still participate via Zoom. The event will include an awards night, a talent show and the final speech championship round.

What is FunFox?

FunFox is a Writers and Readers Club Program designed to teach students how to become excellent communicators. Forget the traditional tutoring model. FunFox is so much more than that. Our small-group classes are led by teachers rigorously trained in the FunFox Way to help students excel at primary school and beyond. Aligned with the Australian curriculum and suitable for students from all over the world, our classes are interactive, fun, and deliver the kind of growth you’re looking for.

What is Speech Championship?

This competition aims to encourage primary school students to explore shaping the future while they practice their public speaking skills and improve their confidence. At FunFox, we are focusing on persuasive writing this term. One of the key elements of persuasive writing is being able to speak and convince your point to others. Which is why we thought we should host a championship to help build on their skills and give them a chance to showcase their talent. The competition is for students in years 1 to year 9; we hope to see everyone giving their best. Best of luck to everyone – we can’t wait to hear your ideas!

Who can enter the competition?

All students in Grade/Years 1-9.

We don’t live in Australia, but can my child still participate?

Yes, they can. Round 1 and 2 are completely online, and round 3 is going to be in-person, but for our outstanding students selected for round 3 who do not live here, we have arranged a Zoom call for them to take part in the finals.

What are the rules of the competition?

Other than the entry rules and speaking times detailed above, it should also be noted that contestants are not allowed to use any props or external aids, such as PowerPoint presentations, during their speeches.

How much does entry cost?

The entry is free for FunFox Students, and it is $50 for Non-FunFox Students

What are the speech topics?

You can choose any topic you like and are free to re-interpret the topics based on your perspective for

What are the speaking requirements?

The Video you will submit will have to be shot from waist-up, and it should be visible that the student is standing. The video must be unedited and not sped up.
Speaking Time:

  • Year 1 - 2: 90 Seconds
  • Year 3 - 4: 2 Minutes
  • Year 5 - 6: 3 Minutes
  • Year 7 - 9: 3 Minutes

How will my child progress through the rounds?

Round 1: For round 1, you need to sign up by clicking on the registration link, filling in the details, and then submitting a video on the given topics. The video will then be judged by our esteemed judges. There will be 5 winners for this round, who will then move on to round 2.
Round 2: The top 5 will then be announced on our Instagram page, so do not forget to follow us @funfoxprogram to see if your child is selected. The videos will then be open to the public to judge and be voted on; the videos will also be simultaneously judged again by our judges. From each cohort, there will be 1 person from the votes moving forward and 2 people as per the judges. In total, 3 people will be chosen to come to the in-person event
Round 3: The top 3 will get a chance to address the group, where they will be judged by our esteemed professors.
The topics for this will be given after the announcement of the top 3.
We would love to see the students come, even if they are not selected, to cheer on their friends.

What are the prizes?

Every Student signing up and participating will receive a Certificate. The grand prize is an Ipad and there are cash prizes for category winners along with participation certicificates.
